Members of Colonials Community Volunteer Corps, sponsored by Colonial Youth and Family Services, have reached another significant milestone. Volunteers led by Ray Hopp and Samantha Soccorso, have surpassed eighty thousand hours of volunteer service to their community.
Over the past twenty seven years volunteers have worked on seventy seven projects totaling over eighty thousand hours of volunteer time. Deputy Director, Ray Hopp said “This is an outstanding achievement, and a reflection on the exceptional quality of this project.” Samantha Soccorso, Youth Worker stated, “All the volunteers and staff have worked very hard to achieve this tremendous accomplishment.”
Volunteers work with community leaders to prioritize and plan volunteer activities. This program is designed to increase adolescents awareness of their community and help them to feel included and a part of it.
Some of the many projects include: graffiti removal, community gardens, set up for the 2 Day Walk to fight breast cancer, a mural project, holiday assistance, community clean ups and flowers for friends.
