On Wednesday, October 11, 2017 an award ceremony was held at William Floyd High School for members of Colonials Community Volunteer Corps. Many dignitaries were present to thank the volunteers and present them with certificates. Several volunteers received special recognition for their efforts. Thomas Pirello, Penny Auerbach, Emily Walsh, Nicole McDonald and Isabella Coppola were recognized for giving 100 hours of volunteer time; Thomas Pirello for giving 250 hours. Volunteers are involved in many projects including, Graffiti Removal, Community Clean up, Flowers for Friends and community gardens.

Volunteer members of Colonials Community Volunteer Corps, sponsored by Colonial Youth and Family Services, have been continuing their efforts to remove graffiti vandalism. Volunteers have been working on Friday mornings over the summer to remove graffiti vandalism from local municipal property.
The goal of this project is to remove graffiti vandalism from municipal property in our neighborhoods. To date, volunteers have removed 5,581 pieces of graffiti vandalism. Our volunteers strive to maintain these sites while continuing to expand the scope of this project.
On Sunday August 27th members of Colonials Community Volunteer Corps, Sponsored by Colonial Youth and Family Services helped at the annual Blue Claw Crab Festival, Sponsored by the Mastic Beach Property Owners Association. Volunteer members worked hard all day at this event.
Early in the morning on Saturday, September 8th, members of Colonials Community Volunteer Corps, sponsored by Colonial Youth and Family Services, helped at a 5K Run sponsored by the Mastic, Moriches, Shirley Community Library.
Volunteers started by setting up three water tables. Then as runners passed by, volunteers handed them cups of refreshing water. After the last runner had passed, the volunteers cleaned up the discarded cups.
Staff from the library thanked the volunteers for their help. The volunteer corps looks forward to helping with this event again next year. Continue reading
