Hello and welcome to the official website of Colonial Youth and Family Services! We are a not-for-profit community-based youth and family agency located in Mastic, NY. Our origins are in a grassroots movement which was encouraged and assisted by local residents, school officials and the Suffolk County Youth Bureau back in 1970. A countywide needs assessment by the Youth Bureau culminated in the agency being incorporated as a private, non-profit organization in 1973 with initial funding from the Suffolk County Youth Bureau. Originally developed to serve the William Floyd School District, which encompasses the hamlets of Mastic, Mastic Beach, Shirley and The Moriches, Colonial’s incorporation now enables us to offer services throughout Suffolk County.

Colonial is the only comprehensive human service organization in the area and provides individual, group and family counseling, information and necessary referrals to other community agencies, an extensive child care program, summer camp, a comprehensive parenting program to both mothers and fathers 21 & under, youth volunteer opportunities and family assistance for those in need of emergency services such as food, fuel, electricity, clothing, school supplies, etc.

Colonial has received funding from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, the Suffolk County Youth Bureau, the Suffolk County Department of Social Services, Town of Brookhaven Community Development, Long Island Fund for Women and Girls, Maternity and Early Childhood Foundation and the United Way of Long Island.

The agency administrates two (2) “fee for service” programs. One is our child care program which encompasses Universal Pre-K, before & after school care, day care, vacations and parent/teacher conference programs. Next is our expanding clinical counseling department which accepts various insurance providers or works on a sliding scale for those uninsured. Additionally, the agency runs several annual fundraising events including a golf tournament and our “Evening at Atlantis” dinner which generates unrestricted revenue to help meet overall budget expenses.
